Intel to Cut Power Consumption on Future Ivy Bridge Chips
Intel is presently at work reducing the power consumption of their Ivy Bridge chips so they can be sued in mainstream tablets.Intel has previewed its next-generation Haswell chips that push power consumption asto as low as 10 watts, but they are making the move to reduce power needs even before these Haswell chips hit the market.
In addition to tablets, reducing the power needs for the chips will also reduce the battery needs for small notebooks like the MacBook Air. With their future chips setting their sites on tablets, there are rumors that Apple could be considering them to replace Samsung’s A-series chips used in their tablets and phones.
Apple does seem dedicated to using their ARM-based chip design and Intel’s x86 chips power needs probably couldn’t be reduced as much as needed.
Apple is also said to have asked Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to take over, but rumors says they’ve declined an exclusivity deal.
