Is This When a Cheap iPhone Will Finally Release?

How does an unlocked $200, brand new iPhone sound? Well if it sounds too good to be true, it just might be. New reports from analysts are suggesting that Apple could venture into the affordable territory in order to boost market share in territories like India and China.

According to Yahoo!, analyst Gene Munster predicts that Apple could be in the business of potentially trying to gain more market share in countries where majority of the residents can’t afford their products.
Munster is suggesting that given market trends Apple may unleash a $200 iPhone handset to capture large markets with low income, but he doesn’t think they’ll just repackage something like the iPhone 4 and call it a day.

For now it’s just a speculative rumor, but it’s not unlikely for Apple to consider this route given how big both China and India are and how much they could make selling unlocked phones a mass group of people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them.
